How To: Manual

Learn how to Manual on a skateboard

A Manual is the skateboard version of a wheelie on a bike. It's great for combining tricks and creating skate lines.

  1. Push off and build up a bit of speed.
  2. Position your feet so your back foot is on the back tail of the board and your front foot is just over half way.
  3. Push down on the back tail of the board with your back foot until it almost touches the ground.
  4. Use your front foot to adjust the angle and keep balance as long as possible.
  5. To complete a successful Manual lean forwards on the board until the front wheels touch the ground again.

NEW Trick - Heelflip

The Heelflip is similar to the Kickflip, however, you use the heel of your foot to flip the board rather than your toe.

  1. Position your back foot over the back tail of the skateboard, your front foot just before halfway and bend your knees.
  2. In one smooth motion, slam the tail down into the ground with your back foot and slide your front foot towards the front end of the skateboard leaving the toes hanging off the edge whilst extending your legs in an upward movement. TIP: you may get better results if you slide your foot up on its side.
  3. Once your front foot is positioned in line with the front trucks kick down hard with your heel. This will cause the board to flip.
  4. Lift your legs so your feet are out of reach of the board whilst it is flipping.
  5. When the board has flipped over 360 extend your legs to land back on the gripped surface. TIP: Keep your feet spaced roughly over the screws of the trucks to keep balance.

FREEBIE FRIDAY! Kickflip Tutorial

Take a look at our new tutorial on how to perform a Kickflip.

The Kickflip is often the first flip trick skaters learn. It takes the fundamental skills achieved from perfecting the Ollie and expands upon them.

  1. Position your back foot over the back tail of the skateboard, your front foot just before halfway and bend your knees.
  2. In one smooth motion, slam the tail down into the ground with your back foot and slide your front foot towards the front end of the skateboard leaving the heel hanging off the edge whilst extending your legs in an upward movement. TIP: you may get better results if you slide your foot up on its side.
  3. Once your front foot is in line with the front trucks kick down hard on the edge of the board with the toes of your front foot.

Beginners Guide - The Ollie
The Ollie is the most important trick to learn for a skateboarder. It is the essential key necessary to progress onto learning flip, aerial and grind tricks. Once mastered, the ollie opens up all the possibilities of skating.
  1. Position your back foot over the back tail of the skateboard, your front foot just before halfway and bend your knees.
  2. In one fluid motion, slam the tail down into the ground with your back foot and slide your front foot towards the other end of the skateboard whilst extending your legs in an upward movement. TIP: you may get better results if you slide your foot up on its side.
  3. Raise your legs up allowing the board to naturally move up with you.
  4. Press down on the front end of the skateboard with your front foot, thus forcing the skateboard back towards the ground. TIP: Keep your feet spaced roughly over the screws of the trucks to keep balance.
